Steve Greene: Reunion Guest Speaker
TheBattle of Đắk Tô took place nearly 50 years ago from November 3 to 23, 1967. Hill 875 was one of the largest and bloodiest of battles of the Vietnam War. The Initial assault on Hill 875 began on November 19th and culminated on November 23rd, Thanksgiving Day, when the Brigade made the final assault and captured The Hill. The official After Action Report for the battle lists: 191 KIA, 642 WIA and 15 MIA.
The DPAA (Defense Department POW/MIA Accountability Agency) still shows 3 MIA from the battle. In February and March of this year, Steve Greene of Casper Platoon, Wambi Cook from A/2/503 Infantry of the 173d Airborne Brigade and Jim McGlaughlin of the 335th AHC, along with a team of 10 other military and defense department members returned to Hill 875 as members of a DPAA Recovery Team to hopefully discover what may have happened to our missing.
As it is an ongoing investigation, there are many facts that cannot be shared. However, Steve, Wambi and Jim were selected for this mission because; hopefully they can provide more data in this quest. The site inspection is part of an investigation that has been going on for decades. This will be the first time that actual witnesses from the battle will go to the site.
During our Banquet Dinner at the Casper Platoon Reunion in Nashville this summer, Steve Greene will be our honored "Guest Speaker" and will make his presentation on this Recovery Mission on Hill 875.
Men’s Casper Photo
Its has become a tradition for the guys to get together each reunion to take a Group Leather Jacket Photo and 2017 will be no exception.
The group photo shown here to the right was taken during our first Nashville reunion at a very cool bar that was located near the Downtown DoubleTree. Art McBride and I think this would be the perfect place to also take this years photo.
If you would like to participate this year, please bring your jacket to the reunion. We will take two different photos. One with the Caspers only with their leather jackets and another one with all of the guys at the luncheon.
Other Things To Do While In Town
Special Thanks…
Now please meet Rob Dietrich. He is the “Master Distiller” at the Stranahan’s Distillery in Denver, Colorado.
Rob is a combat veteran, who as a SP4 with the 10th Mountain Division deployed for 2 combat tours in Somalia and one in Haiti. Rob participated in the Black Hawk Down incident providing target locations to the trapped Rangers and to the Black Hawks. He would like to honor the Casper Aviation Platoon and show Stranahan’s support through their generous donation of a case of Stranahan’s Whiskey. Caspers will toast with some of this very special commemorative whiskey and we will also raffle off a bottle or two to some lucky Casper. “Welcome Home” Rob & thank you for your service and sacrifice for our country!
